Volunteer

Volunteer positions may change throughout the year. We will publish high priority volunteer positions monthly. Positions marked with an asterisk (*) can be completed fully online from anywhere!

We also created this form to capture volunteer interest and skills more broadly.

High Priority Volunteers:

  • ECo Green/Steam Volunteers:Eco/Green Committee: A parent volunteer sits on the school's Eco/Green committee with teachers and staff to help plan programming throughout the year.
    STEAM Committee: A parent volunteer sits on the school's STEAM committee with teachers and staff to help plan programming throughout the year. ~April will have a STEAM/Career day.Please specify in the comments when you sign up which committee you'd like to help with.
  • Wellness Committee: This group will be taking the lead on Eat the Rainbow week in June 2025! You’ll have the opportunity to organize a fun week featuring a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Plus, you’ll collaborate with the school's social and wellness team to provide support to staff in this arena.
  • *Sponsorships: We're seeking volunteers to help secure sponsorships for all our school events, end-of-year giving, and potential silent auction donations! You'll gather contact info, create prospect lists, and reach out to local businesses with compelling asks, working closely with our PTA fundraising team. Your efforts will build strong community partnerships that support our school throughout the year!

Communications Volunteers:

  • Amharic Translation: Join the roster of volunteers to help interpret and/or translate from English to Amharic on the days you are available or an on-call basis.
  • Spanish Translation: Join the roster of volunteers to help interpret and/or translate from English to Spanish on the days you are available or an on-call basis.
  • *Social Media: A social media volunteer takes care of the RCF PTA's social media presence, which involves managing content, engaging with comments, and fostering an online community.
  • *Update Website: We’re looking for someone to help keep the RCF PTA website updated regularly! You’ll receive the content that needs to be added, and your main responsibility will be ensuring the website stays current and fresh. You’ll work closely with the PTA President to make it all happen.
  • Small Group Interpretation (Amharic, Dari, Spanish) - Seeking parent volunteers fluent in Amharic, Dari or Spanish to facilitate groups at an upcoming PTA meeting. They will be trained on navigating special education in MCPS and provided with printed materials in their language to share with their fellow community members. The volunteers will use the tablet app to create a running list of questions arising from their group. These questions will be answered either at the meeting and/or distributed later in English, Spanish, Dari, and Amharic.

Events Volunteers:

  • Bingo Night:
    • Event Date: January 25, 2025
    • Chair: Shana Fajardo
    • Help us pull off a night of fun for the whole family at RCF. You'll organize games, prizes, food.
  • Talent Show:
    • March 1, 2025
    • Help our little stars shine! We need volunteers to work ahead of time on the program, DJ, dress rehearsal, throphies. At the event we'll need help keeping the crowd focused and providing food.
  • Multicultural Night: March 21, 2025
    • Multicultural Night is a fantastic community event with delicious food, musical performances, and more. It's going to be in March 2025 this year. A few helping hands will help this evening run smoothly - please sign up! The planning committee and day of volunteers are needed. Please specify your interest in your comments section (either planning volunteer or day-of).
  • Book Swap: Manage swap of gently used books donated by RCF families for RCF students, typically in the Spring.
  • Community Dinners: Help us give families a well-deserved night off from cooking while bringing our school community closer together! By volunteering to organize our community dinners, you'll create an evening where families can relax, connect, and enjoy great food without the stress. We need event leads and home chefs 3x: Fall, Winter, and Spring.
  • Spring Fair:
    • May 30, 2025
    • We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make our Spring Fair a success! From manning inflatables to running crafts and games stations, there are plenty of ways to get involved and bring joy to our school community. Join us in creating a fun and memorable event for everyone!

Committee Volunteers:

  • Lost & Found Committee: Organize and photograph Lost & Found items and share so families can see and claim items.
  • Wellness Committee: This group will be taking the lead on Eat the Rainbow week in June 2025! You’ll have the opportunity to organize a fun week featuring a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Plus, you’ll collaborate with the school's social and wellness team to provide support to staff in this arena.
  • Staff Appreciation Committee: This year, we're excited to express our appreciation for our teachers throughout the entire year! We're looking for a volunteer who can lend a hand once a month to help us show our teachers just how much they mean to the RCF community. In addition to planning and organizing activities for Teacher Appreciation Week—like bagels and coffee, catered lunches, and creating videos and cards from kids and families—your support would make a big difference.
  • Culture Committee: A parent volunteer sits on the school's culture committee with teachers and staff to help plan in-school cultural programming throughout the year. PTA lead: Scott Trudell
  • Inclusivity Committee: A parent volunteer sits on the school's inclusivity committee with teachers and staff to help plan inclusivity programming throughout the year.

Fundraising Volunteers:

  • *Fundraising - Dine Out: We’re seeking two enthusiastic leads to organize monthly Dine Outs for the RCF PTA! These fun events bring our community together at local spots like Chipotle or Mamma Lucia's, with a portion of sales going to the PTA. It’s a simple and effective way to fundraise while supporting local businesses!
  • *Sponsorships: We're seeking volunteers to help secure sponsorships for all our school events, end-of-year giving, and potential silent auction donations! You'll gather contact info, create prospect lists, and reach out to local businesses with compelling asks, working closely with our PTA fundraising team. Your efforts will build strong community partnerships that support our school throughout the year!
  • Spiritwear Sales: The SpiritWear Committee sells fun clothing and swag at most major RCFES events and we are always looking for volunteers!
  • Holiday Gift Drive: Coordinate with the counseling team to determine number of families in need; create wish lists/suggested items to donate; package items to be delivered to families. Delivery in early December, work throughout the fall to plan and collect items.
  • Money for Nothing:
    • Lead: Cassandra Berman
    • Our committee helps turn RCF families' everyday shopping into extra cash for the school! Currently, our program consists of donations from two local businesses: Snider's Super Foods (which donates 1% from all collected receipt totals to RCF), and Corner Market (which donates 3% of collected receipt totals). We also participate in the digital Box Tops for Education program.
    • Volunteers are in charge of informing the greater RCF community of the program, sending periodic reminders to turn in receipts, and totalling receipts and submitting required paperwork to Snider's and Corner Market. Volunteers also inform the community of how they may participate in the Box Tops program, and seek out additional Money for Nothing partnerships.

SSL Volunteers: Join our corps of SSL volunteers (students) to get required SSL hours by volunteering for RCF. Sign up now and we'll reach out via email when we have SSL position available for an event, etc.
