Communications Volunteers
  • Amharic Translation: interpret and/or translate from English to Amharic on the days you are available or an on-call basis.
  • Spanish Translation: interpret and/or translate from English to Spanish on the days you are available or an on-call basis.
  • Small Group Interpretation (Amharic, Dari, Spanish) – Seeking parent volunteers fluent in Amharic, Dari or Spanish to facilitate groups at an upcoming PTA meeting. They will be trained on navigating special education in MCPS and provided with printed materials in their language to share with their fellow community members. The volunteers will use the tablet app to create a running list of questions arising from their group. These questions will be answered either at the meeting and/or distributed later in English, Spanish, Dari, and Amharic.
  • Social Media: manage the RCF PTA social media presence on Facebook and Instagram, managing content, engaging with comments, and fostering an online community.
  • Website: work closely with the PTA Executive Committee to add and edit RCF PTA website content, ensuring the website stays current and fresh.

Event Volunteers
  • Multicultural Night:  Multicultural Night is a fantastic community event with delicious food, musical performances, and more. A few helping hands will help this evening run smoothly – please sign up! The planning committee and day of volunteers are needed.
  • Book Fair: Help run the register, restock books, and keep things running smoothly during the fair.
  • Literacy Night: Support fun literacy activities and help run stations during the event.
  • Read-a-Thon: Help promote reading joy! Volunteers plan prizes and help get the word out.
  • Talent Show: Help our little stars shine! We need volunteers to work ahead of time on the program, DJ, dress rehearsal, trophies. At the event we’ll need help keeping the crowd focused and providing food.
  • MLK Day of Service: Join us for a day of giving back-volunteers help run hands-on service projects with students.
  • Living History Museum: Support student presenters as they share what they’ve learned with the school community.
  • Book Swap: Manage swap of gently used books donated by RCF families for RCF students, typically in the Spring.
  • Spring Fair: We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make our Spring Fair a success! From manning inflatables to running crafts and games stations, there are plenty of ways to get involved and bring joy to our school community. Join us in creating a fun and memorable event for everyone!
Committee Volunteers
  • Staff Appreciation Committee: This year, we’re excited to express our appreciation for our teachers throughout the entire year! We’re looking for a volunteer who can lend a hand once a month to help us show our teachers just how much they mean to the RCF community. In addition to planning and organizing activities for Teacher Appreciation Week-like bagels and coffee, catered lunches, and creating videos and cards from kids and families-your support would make a big difference.
  • Lost & Found Committee: Help keep the Lost & Found organized! Tidy once a week and assist with quarterly donation prep.
  • C.A.F.E. Committee: Help create a warm, welcoming space for family-school conversations by bringing snacks and setting up for each C.A.F.E. session.
  • Social/Wellness Committee: A parent volunteer joins the school’s Social Committee to collaborate with staff on fun and meaningful programming for students, families, and staff throughout the year.
  • Culture Committee: A parent volunteer sits on the school’s culture committee with teachers and staff to help plan in-school cultural programming throughout the year.
  • Community Engagement Committee: A parent volunteer sits on the school’s inclusivity committee with teachers and staff to help plan inclusivity programming throughout the year.
  • ECO Green/Steam Volunteers: A parent volunteer sits on the school’s Eco/Green committee with teachers and staff to help plan programming throughout the year.
  • 5th Grade Promotion Committee: Celebrate our 5th graders! Help plan the promotion ceremony, party, field trip, and fundraising efforts.
Fundraising Volunteers
  • Fundraising – Dine Out: We’re looking for two energetic and friendly volunteers to help us organize Dine Out events for the RCF PTA! These enjoyable gatherings bring our community together at local restaurants or even food trucks that visit the school, and a portion of the sales goes directly to the PTA. It’s a great, easy way to raise funds while supporting our local businesses.
  • Sponsorships: Are you a small business owner in our community? We’d love to partner with you! RCF is full of creative, talented parents and caregivers, and we want to find ways to showcase and support that. Help our PTA secure sponsorships.
  • Spiritwear Sales: The SpiritWear Committee sells RCF clothing and swag at most major RCFES events and we are always looking for volunteers!
  • Holiday Gift Drive: Coordinate with the counseling team to determine number of families in need; create wish lists/suggested items to donate; package items to be delivered to families. Delivery in early December, work throughout the fall to plan and collect items.
  • Money for Nothing:
    • Lead: Cassandra Berman
    • Our committee helps turn RCF families’ everyday shopping into extra cash for the school! Currently, our program consists of donations from two local businesses: Snider’s Super Foods (which donates 1% from all collected receipt totals to RCF), and Corner Market (which donates 3% of collected receipt totals). We also participate in the digital Box Tops for Education program.
    • Volunteers are in charge of informing the greater RCF community of the program, sending periodic reminders to turn in receipts, and totaling receipts and submitting required paperwork to Snider’s and Corner Market. Volunteers also inform the community of how they may participate in the Box Tops program and seek out additional Money for Nothing partnerships.
Student Service Learning Volunteers
  • Join our corps of Student Service Learning (SSL) volunteers! Sign up here and we’ll reach out via email when we have an SSL position available at an RCF PTA event.
  • SSL is a Maryland State graduation requirement for all students between grades 6-12, which promotes learning through volunteering and providing meaningful service to the community. Service learning promotes civic knowledge, civic engagement, academic success, and character and social development in students. Learn more at MCPS SSL Hub.
